Salt Rising Bread
Been loving this bread for nearly 60 years. My grandkids call it "stinky-feet bread" because when the loaves are baking, or you're toasting slices (we like it best toasted!), it smells like stinky feet. Toasted slices are very crunchy on the outside, and moist and chewy on the inside. DELICIOUS!!!!! NOT easy to make, but well worth the effort! Our home town bakery used to make this once a week, and throughout the 1950s and 60s my dad was always first in line to buy half a dozen loaves. These days the only way you're likely to experience this delicious bread is to bake it yourself.

This is really just a suped up version of hamburger n' rice. I actually got the idea for this from a box of hamburger helper. It was good but I said, "I bet I could do it better." And hey!... I was right. As always, the fun of cooking is putting your own spin on things. Use any veggies you want, too with anything you want. I always encourage creativity in cooking. Enjoy!
Beef & Barley Noodle Soup (made with rib roast leftovers)
This recipe ensures that none of that expensive holiday rib roast goes to waste. Can easily be adjusted to suit your taste by substituting your preferred veggies, omitting the noodles or barley, etc. Leftover soup thickens and becomes like condensed soup -- add water and reheat. After a day or two, I freeze what's left in single serving containers.

Haleem from Rib Roast
During the Holidays time, lots of families are cooking Rib Roast of Beef. Rib Roast is quite expensive. Usually a Rib Roast of 8 Ribs (with Bones) could cost about $180 to $200.00 It does make a great meal for 10-12 people. The Butcher will always trim the fat and seperate the Bones but Tie it together with the roast for Flavor. When your roast is done, you would normally carve the roast and serve your guest and keep the Bones for later soups and stews. I have made this recipe for Haleem from the Ribs Bones and the meat around the bones.
