"Lotsa" Vegetable/Beef Soup

Been rainy, windy and chilly here today, so decided to see what I had on hand. Ended up being a pot of soup. Hard to give you exact measurements, as most everything was bits and pieces of bags and containers I had. Put everything in the crock pot for about 6 hours on low....just until the potatoes were done. Served with some corn bread......yummy!! Plus I have enough for dinner Tues, when I come home from work.

Chicken and Dumplings - Slow Cooker

Chicken and Dumplings - Slow Cooker

This recipe is my twist on a classic. Making it in a slow cooker means that I can turn this meal into an easy, mostly hands-off, weeknight meal and it's all still from scratch, so I feel good about serving it to my family. The dumplings are soft and fluffy. This comes together so easily and is hearty and delicious.

1st chili batch of the year and decided to do something a little different than our norm. Used up another pound of the awesome homemade chorizo I had in the freezer and went with 1/4 cup of my own homemade chili seasoning (see my "chilly chili seasoning" recipe). The result was a delightfully spicy chili anyone could appreciate.

Sunflower Soup (Sup Bunga Matahari)

Sunflower Soup (Sup Bunga Matahari)

This dish originally comes from Solo, a big town in Central Java, Indonesia. We call it Sunflower soup because its shape is similar as sunflower. The unique thing about this dish is only available/served in some wedding parties in Solo. So far I have never found any restaurants in Indonesia that have this dish on their menu. This is my first attempt to make it and it is very technical, but to see how the way it turns out and how delicious and fresh the taste is (my family loves it), I am sure I will cook this again in the future.
