I'm native american, grew up on a rez - this is a favorite dinner staple. My sister's the queen of soups, so with her tutelage, I made a pot by myself ❤ Idk if you've ever seen the joke/meme about Natives or Mexicans not using exact measurements, but that's exactly what this entails. You measure with your heart/soul y'all. (Except the pasta in this case.)

Ingredients and spices that need to be prepared to make Hamburger Stew:

  1. 1 lb. (or a little more) ground beef
  2. Veggies of your choice(carrots, potatoes, celery)
  3. 1 can corn
  4. 2 (8oz.)cans tomato sauce
  5. 1 (14 oz.) can of crushed tomatoes
  6. 2 cups elbow macaroni

Steps to make a Hamburger Stew

1
So first off, get out your biggest soup pot you have & fill it w/water, to boil on medium-high heat.
2
While you're waiting for that, now's a good time to prep your veggies! Wash, peel, & dice everything up.
3
Once the waters boiling, roll your hamburger into bite-sized pieces & place into the hot water.
4
When the hamburgers all floating to the top & is brown in color, add in the can of crushed tomatoes, drained can of corn, & one of the tomato sauce. Stir everything together, "let everybody get to know each other".
5
Add in the veggies that'll take the longest to cook - carrots & celery
6
Let everything in the pot boil for 20+ minutes until the carrots/celery are soft - to the point you can easily stab a fork into the veggies easily
7
After that point you can add in your diced potatoes & dry macaroni, let it boil again til everything's soft but not soggy! You can also add in diced cabbage if you'd like!
8
Once those are thoroughly cooked, you can taste test! Salt & pepper it or add in the second can of tomato sauce if you'd prefer.
9
Ladle some of this into a bowl & enjoy!

I think this one is the winner winner chicken dinner. Presentation and taste. Although I love the honey butter version found here in Cookpad I was not in love with the cornbread recipe. I use Maple Syrup or the butter and honey recipe in cookpad (1/4 butter and 2 tablespoons local honey whipped and blended).

I call this the slimmed down version not just because I cut down on calories but also reduced the cost. Original recipe includes green onions, red wine vinegar, and cook crumbed bacon. I reserve and add bacon grease with the vinegar to taste, and the flavors blend beautifully.
